These five degrees almost guarantee you a graduate job
Just how useful is a university degree in securing full-time, well-paid employment?
Well, if you plan to study pharmacy, the answer is "very".
According to the results of a survey of 120,000 Australian university graduates released this month, the following five degree choices give grads the highest chances of securing employment:
1. Pharmacy (97.2 percent)
2. Medicine (94.9 percent)
3. Rehabilitation (84.3 percent)
4. Dentistry (86.8 percent)
5. Veterinary Science (84.7 percent)
About 73 per cent of university graduates gained employment within four months of graduation in 2018 — the best result since 2014.
But 10 years ago, just prior to the global financial crisis, the number was as high as 85 per cent. The survey report says that since the financial crisis, graduates have taken longer to gain a foothold in the job market.
Longer-team, the job prospects are stronger, with 89 per cent of students finding full-time work within three years of graduation.
